Privacy Policy

Last updated: 9 May 2026.

This page describes how Artisanist collects and uses personal data. We try to keep this in plain English. If anything is unclear, email us at varyalovestoknit@gmail.com and we’ll fix or clarify it.

Who we are

The data controller is Varvara Shcherbakova, operating Artisanist as a sole trader, resident in Portugal. You can reach the controller at varyalovestoknit@gmail.com. Once Artisanist is incorporated, this page will be updated with the company name and EU registered address.

What we collect, and why

The email address you give us in the signup form. We collect it for one reason: to email you when the Artisanist crochet course launches and, occasionally afterward, when we release new courses or community events. Legal basis: your consent (GDPR Art. 6(1)(a)), given when you click Keep me posted!

Attribution data. When you arrive on the site we check the URL for tracking parameters that ad platforms add (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, gclid, fbclid) and store them in your browser’s localStorage. If you sign up, we attach those values to your record so we know which campaign brought you here. We don’t set any cookies and we don’t use cross-site trackers.

Server logs. Our hosting provider (Cloudflare) keeps short-term access logs containing IP addresses, user-agents, and requested URLs, used for security and debugging.

Who we share it with

Kit (formerly ConvertKit) — our email-marketing tool. They store your address and send the confirmation, launch announcement, and any future newsletters on our behalf. Kit is a US company that complies with the EU–US Data Privacy Framework. Their privacy policy: kit.com/privacy.

Cloudflare — our hosting and CDN. They process requests to artisanist.org. Cloudflare also complies with the EU–US Data Privacy Framework.

We do not sell or rent your data to anyone, ever.

How long we keep it

Email addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete them. Attribution fields are kept alongside your record for as long as the address is active. Server logs are retained by Cloudflare per their policy (typically 30 days).

Your rights

Under GDPR you have the right to access the data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, port it elsewhere, restrict our processing, and object to it. To exercise any of these, email varyalovestoknit@gmail.com and we will respond within 30 days. You can also unsubscribe instantly using the link at the bottom of any email.

If you believe we’ve mishandled your data, you have the right to complain to a supervisory authority — for residents of Portugal, that’s the CNPD; for other EU residents, your local DPA.

Changes

When we add features that change how we handle data — analytics, ad pixels, payments — we will update this page and, where required, ask for your consent again before turning anything new on.
